This updated release of Webcar now supports HSQLDB, a Free Open Source Database, is being made available on a Free of Charge basis in the hope that it may prove useful. The author has a collection of over 2,000 models, all recorded in Webcar

Webcar has been created to allow owners of Model Car Collections to catalogue and manage their collection.      Unlike conventional applications, Webcar uses an easily installable database and web application server to allow collectors to access their collection via their web browser.  This is ideal for collectors who have models in several locations and wish to use a laptop or other device to record information about their collection.

• Unlimited number of models may be catalogued
• Wide variety of information can be recorded against each model including Scale, Model Maker, Real Maker, Packaging Type, Storage Location, Display Location, Price Paid and Value Now
• Collection statistics providing quick access to information about the collection
• Ability to search and order many fields
• Support for an open source report writing tool (Japer Reports and IReport) to create custom reports

Webcar has been written using Java J2EE JSP technology and makes use of leading open source products. These include HSQLDB, Spring, Jakarta Tomcat, Jakarta Struts and MySQL Database. Open Source products provide high quality products free from license fees. This enables powerful high quality software applications to be delivered at little or no cost to the end user.

Please note that Webcar has not been designed as a secure web application and has not been security tested.  Webcar should not be placed on any server or computer that  can be accessed via the Internet, especially if this the computer contains private data or allows access to other computers on a private network.
